Why Choose Health Advocacy

As an independent patient advocate, I work for YOU and am on YOUR side.

My involvement is based on YOUR needs and wishes; it can be as little or as much as you would like.

Helping Create Peace of Mind

Because I do not work for the insurance company or the healthcare system, my role as an independent patient advocate enables me to focus on YOU and your needs. My goal is to build a trusting partnership with you and your family in order to help you handle the complex healthcare system with peace of mind.

I want to help keep your voice heard regarding your care by providing education and resources about your specific diagnosis and situation so that you can make the best, most informed decisions about your care and plan. I can help ensure you get an appropriate diagnosis and care plan by helping you organize and create an accurate, in-depth medical history and medication list to provide to each member of your healthcare team.

Joy provided invaluable expertise and knowledge

My husband and I owe a huge debt of gratitude to Joy for her guidance throughout our journey of recovery and rehabilitation following a serious accident. We were both life-flighted to the ER and then hospitalized after treatment and surgeries. I was in the trauma unit for a week and my husband, who sustained multiple grievous life-threatening injuries including amputation of his lower left leg, was in ICU for just a few days shy of a month. Joy provided invaluable expertise and knowledge overseeing our treatment and care. She intervened and prevented me from being prematurely discharged after multiple transfusions and a lack of adequate labs to ensure safe dismissal. She stayed in close contact with my husband’s doctors and care team, making sure each test and treatment step was done exactly when and how it should be. She was able to draw on her knowledge as well as the experience and expertise of contacts in her network of providers in several specialties. Joy battled the insurance company without giving up after initial denials to ensure that he was transferred to a facility that could provide the physical, occupational, speech, and psychological therapies he required for a complete recovery, as opposed to the nursing home environment they preferred. Her success in that endeavor is responsible for the level of a return to normal life he has achieved. She didn’t stop once we were home either. She helped us obtain the medical devices we needed to set up a handicap-accessible environment and directed us to local prosthetists and physical therapy providers. In addition to all the hands-on assistance, Joy also ran an online thread of communication with our family members to keep everyone updated on our progress. Her dedication and determination are equal only to her care and commitment to obtain the best possible outcome for each individual she advocates for.
